“There is no story behind it.
It is split like a second.”
“The Butterfly”, Arun Kolatkar.
Snapshots – often technically “imperfect” or amateurish photographs, poorly framed – are evanescent and ephemeral fragments of time, in their essence. Whether it’s an instantaneous sun-down, existing in a singular moment in history; or a sudden revelation of a larger pattern found in the commonest of occurrences; or simply, snippets of everydays witnessed through daily train rides – these brief glimpses make one attuned to the ‘here and now’ – like the Instagram reel that will disappear within a flicker. In these ‘Insta’ and ‘flicker’ – we breathe, we pause, we live a little for the briefest of instances – and again, we ‘scroll’ our way forward to the next ‘story’ : daily instances of ‘moving on’.
In a world filled with constant distractions and a never-ending stream of information – these moments are clinging ever so briefly to blades of grass only to disappear any moment, leaving no trace of its existence.
The Photography section of Parcham’s current issue inspirit this ‘now’ moment, snapped away from the daily hustles of life. We would call this one – Snapshots!
